Who We Are

Project X_edited.png

Kanal®, a charitable organization, established in 2017 at Kollam, works for the empowerment of children and also for the downtrodden communities of the society. Kanal addresses various problems of children such as child marriage, child suicide, mental health issues, child sexual abuse, and lack of comprehensive sexuality education and life skills. We also act as a medium for discussion of childhood problems. The organization helps in empowering the children to explore and rediscover their real selves and to enhance their potential to the maximum through effective psychological approaches and thus, by boosting both confidence and energy levels to achieve their dreams. Kanal has conducted various counseling programs for around 52,000 students all across the state by joining hands with various government departments and educational institutions.

In a very short time, Kanal could create its own identity in relation to activities for the welfare of the children. Kanal has become an inevitable part of various government departments such as the Kerala State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR), Kerala State Women’s Commission, Kerala Social Justice Department, Department of Women and Child Development, Department of Education, Kerala Police, Thiruvananthapuram District Administration, Kudumbashree Mission, Child Welfare Committees, Student Police Cadets, Our Responsibility to Children (ORC), Kerala State Nirbhaya Cell, Childline, Kerala State Council for Child Welfare, Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education and various nongovernmental and private entities in child development programs. We are the designated organization responsible for implementing Collector's Super 100, a program initiated by the Thiruvananthapuram District administration under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.  Kanal is an official knowledge and training partner to the Extension activities of  MSc Extension, Department of Home Science, Govt College for Women – Thiruvananthapuram. We are also the Outreach program partner of The Literary and Debating Club of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, and St.Thomas College, Ranni in Pathanamthitta District. We addressed the gender and child rights issues in Kerala state in the Generation Equality forum, an initiative by UN Women, the Government of France, and the Government of Mexico.
